The article “Putting a price on celebrity plugs”, written by Anne Kadet, discusses Thuzio, a new startup company that aims to calculate the price of celebrity appearances. Thuzio mission is to help companies in order to find the perfect superstar to promote their brand. They say there is an influencer for any occasions. If you want Kim Kardashian to tweet about your book? She is estimated to charge a fee of $500,000.
Not long ago, movies were only shown in local theaters and companies could easily buy their way into the local market because people were not globalized.
In the era of Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, we can reach a larger circle of people in order to promote a brand, but it’s more demanding to stand out and differentiate. Companies must brand with meaning and target a specific culture in order to start a digital discussion on social media. This will create awareness about their brand.

The Under Armour advertisement to the right is a great example of how it's possible to target gender equality by using a female celebrity in order to create awareness about their brand on this overstuffed social media.
Branding trough social media is now about targeting people’s point of view and reaching cultures trough sources with access to a large crowd. This will lead to digital discussions and create awareness about the specific brand.

$500,000 for a tweet...wow that's crazy!
ReplyDeleteI think it's definitely worth it to the companies... think of how many people say, "Kim Kardashian or so and so uses this product"
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome for companies to promote their products! This way would get a lot of people to use the products that Kim Kardashian uses because she has such a large fan base.
ReplyDeleteIt's obviously a great promotional tactic and what better place to promote then through social media and using celebrities who have millions of followers, yet I think its ridiculous at the same time... $500,000.
ReplyDeleteKim Kardashian has millions of followers from all over the world and she has die hard fans that are just waiting to copy anything she does, so I think it is a great investment for companies and definitely worth the price.
