New Tech for Parents. Future of Raising Infants?
With the advancement of technology today, many new innovations have translated themselves over to the future of parenting. Products allow parents easier ways to manage their work and raising their children. Some of these products not only benefit the parents but they also help the children too. However, not much research has been done on the development of infants on these new tech. Some parents are against raising kids using tech and would rather do it the "old fashion" way for a more natural development of children. I do support the natural development of children but I am also very curious and interested in technological advancements for kids. Even though there is a cyber security risk of a potential hacker hacking into a baby monitor, I am open to learning more about these new technologies and how they may either make future parents' lives easier.
Owlet's Smart Sock: Notifies parents through an app the infant's vital signs. This is important as SIDS (Sudden infant death syndrome) occurs in infants 12 months or younger where they die in their sleep without any warning signs or clear reason. $299
BlueSmart's bottle sleeve: Allows the parent to find the proper feed angle to maximize comfort in infant as well as steady flow of fluids. comes with a timer, temperature sensor, and voice-activated microphone to record feeding amounts which is perfect if the parent lets another person feed their child. $149

Medela Sonata: A breast milk pumper that has a digital touchscreen and smartphone connectivity that is gentler and quieter for mothers. $400
Babyation: A case that contains literally everything a mother needs to feed their infant. It can hold ice packs, containers, and has a pump that flows right into bottles allowing a mother to be fully dressed while pumping milk. An app is available for this device to customize speed and suction levels. $450
I think some of these innovations are brilliant. Of course there is the potential of people hacking baby monitors, but these devices make parenting a little bit easier. Some of the innovations are not at risk for hacking, such as "babyation," so I think that these are pretty cool. Of course the pricing is very high, but eventually competitors will come along and hopefully the price will go down at least a little bit. I am amazed at how much technology has advanced, but it is making life easier for mothers, so I am all for that. This was very interesting blog to read!
ReplyDeleteIn just a few short years science, technological advancements, and human ingenuity have been introduced at such a fast rate, its hard for the average person to keep up. Still, human needs and wants have also evolved and various companies are attentive listening to customer wants and request for new or improved products including better toys or gadgets for both mothers and babies. As with all kinds of products introduced into the mass markets, there will be hits and misses. I personally believe the Owlet's smart sock is a brilliant idea, this smart device could possibly save hundreds of infant lives from a potential death threat like SIDS. Also the Medela Sonata breast pump would be a great alternative to the old painful breast pump offering a much gentler experience for the new mom is a great idea that would make it easier and encourage more mothers to feed their babies more natural breast milk.
ReplyDeleteThis is pretty cool, however the prices of some of these seem to be a little steep especially since their services could be replaced with some extra attention from the parents.
