Facebooks has recently bought an anonymous polling app TBH, which stands for 'To Be Honest'. By buying this app, the company is targeting a specific consumer group which are high school students/teenagers. This app was only launched three months ago (August 3rd) rapidly climbing the charts in the iOS app store and becoming constantly used by high schoolers. TBH successfully reached the top of the download charts among free apps on iOS. By buying this app, Facebook is targeting teenagers as teens are using Facebook less and less.
There has been at least five million downloads of TBH with more than a billion sent messages and compliments. TBH is "an app for giving anonymous feedback to friends." where it is commonly used to give others compliments in the form of a poll. Examples include, " Always has their phone ready to catch that important snap," "Always wanted to be friends with them," "Wouldn't mind snuggling up with them during a movie" and simply "Your favorite.'"
Obtaining this app is an example of Facebook's desire to warn other companies that pose a threat to its dominance.

I think it's interesting that it's mainly targeted towards a certain audience of middle schoolers and high schoolers because my brother has this app and I had no idea what it was until he showed it to me and how it worked
ReplyDeleteThis is a good way for Facebook to show its "power" because they are showing how the TBH app will target the younger users, while Facebook has the older people. This means they have two different apps with two different target markets.
ReplyDeleteI think this is good for Facebook to keep growing and trying new things. And that is great thing in terms of target marketing. Plus, it's another way of moneymaking.
