Merchants Watch Online Sales Data for Shifts in Buying Habits

Large retailers get ready to build their new selling strategy as the E-commerce estimates are due this Tuesday. With the famous holiday-shopping season approaching in the coming month, it is essential for merchants to know the customer's recent buying habits.

As online sales have risen in the past years and have taken a fair chunk of retail volume mall owners, merchants and economists will be evaluating these results in order to determine whether consumers will buy the products physically or through online retailers in this shopping season.

As the third quarter estimates are released by the U.S Census Bureau it will be give these retailers a better idea as to how to approach their target market. E-commerce has been on the rise for many years now and it is evident as we see the growing size of Amazon Inc. and Alibaba Group who are the biggest online retailers in the world.

Many experts argue that the rate of growth for E-commerce is flattening out over the years and is not increasing as much, but in favor of it online sales only account for 7.2% of total retail sales so there is plenty of room to grow.

The topic is interesting because online shopping is the new trend whether its groceries or luxury products. Consumers now choose to sit home and click on the products they want rather than go to the stores physically due to busy schedules. It's important for marketing departments to spot these trends as it gives the businesses a better idea as to how to promote their products. Marketing on social media has given many small business an outlet to boost their revenues and get recognized.
