‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Hammers the Competition for Disney’s Marvel Studio

The third episode in the Norse god’s movie series yields in $121 million in its opening weekend, that inhaled some life into a box office market that is in the midst of recovery from its worst October in decade. “Ragnarok” now the 17th consecutive movie from Walt Disney Co.’s Marvel Studios at number one, has earned $427 million globally, led by a $55.6 million inauguration in China alone. “Ragnarok” is the third Thor movie, since the original in 2011 and its opening this weekend is 41% than its 2013 second series episode, “Thor: The Dark World.” Chris Hemsworth plays his role as the god of Thunder, which also includes Marvel characters, like Doctor Strange and the Incredible Hulk. In terms of marketing, this interlocking of characters is a central component of Marvel’s plan, which really attracts and appeals quite effectively to moviegoers, due to the fascinating characters’ temperaments and the story lines.

The introduction of fascinating characters, such as the Incredible Hulk produces the kind of ambiguous, yet kind feeling that the Thor movie is a magnificent one. This helped Marvel evade the sequel fatigues within the movie openings. “Ragnarok’s” gross capital had tremendously profited from playing on more expensive I-MAX Inc. screens, which contributed $34 million to the movie’s global box office. The “Ragnarok” opening is happy news for theater owners, who have experienced several slumps this year and went into the weekend with an annual box office down by 5%. Therefore, with the “Ragnarok” movie series inauguration and its creative marketing scheme, its expected to offset some of it’s past box office losses.
