Gucci Sets Off Frenzy in Milan
This article caught my eye because for once I saw a designer company successfully appeal to both the current young generation, as well as those from the old money days. A wonderful quote from this article stated, "It's like Prada in the 90's." There has been a new fashion movement among men and women that has been called the "hipster movement." This style refers to bringing back the bold and thick glasses, the vintage style clothes, and looking like you spend your days in the coffee shop. Gucci, after receiving a heavy blow on sales decided to take a risk and appeal to this new trend of bringing the original "nerdy but sexy" back.
The way this article applies to what we have learned in class is the "product" of the four P's. This company revamped its line with a style of clothing that took the masses by surprise, You have women wearing and showing off their designer items that were thought to never be back in fashion. You have the younger generation boasting the style with pride as they rock what would be considered, "something your mom would have worn." What was once in, years ago, is now in again. It gives way to the idea that there are many styles that just will not go away, and if they do, they will come right back around eventually. Who knows, maybe the bleached hair backstreet boy look will be how our kids are dressing in the next ten to twenty years.
Gucci did an amazing job making this bold move to step into the present day light of our generation's fashion trend, and you can sure bet that you will see many more high fashion companies jump on this "hipster train." The real question now becomes, with all these high ranking and expensive companies making their own line of vintage style clothing, where will that leave stores like Buffalo Exchange who pride themselves on these types of clothes already?
Food for thought: How do you feel about these old fashion trends coming back? Do you see a possible new trend coming into our generation soon? What type of fashion trends do you think will be next to rise up from the grave? PLEASE LEAVE COMMENTS BELOW.
