Rubber That Can Heal Its Own Wounds
By Daniel Akst

As consumers, we always strive to find products which allow our lives to maintain and boost the comfort to a certain level. Everyday we discover new technology which blows our minds. We ask ourselves: how is that even possible? Well, German scientist at Dresden's Technical University and its Leibniz Institute for Polymer Research have discovered a method from which the tire is capable of healing itself. Dr. Das, head of the team, says "that his team is working on embedding their new rubber with carbon nanotubes, which would function as tiny conductors." Now we would not need to change the tire once punctured, how convenient? Although this invention is still in the making, I hope to see it on the market someday. An intimate object capable of self-healing: I'm in!

This creation particularly pertains to "product" in the marketing mix. The product maintains a sustainable competitive advantage, as we well understand that it is strenuous to duplicate for any competitor. It will not even target a specific group, however everyone who actually has a car because sooner or later you will one day end up with a flat tire. Also, it will influence the consumer behavior greatly economically. When one is with a flat tire, they waste so much time just waiting there for someone to arrive and replace the tire. All that money being spent for roadside assistance and AAA insurance. Time and money will be saved immensely.

  2. I'm really interested in this! As someone who doesn't know how to change a tire, I think this could work wonders.
