Apple Maps makes a turnaround

Apple Maps makes a turnaround

Apple Maps when it first came out three years ago was a horrible product for users. It produced all sorts of problems, such as overlooking many towns and businesses and misplacing famous landmarks. This was a surprise to most because Apple products are known for being efficient and easy-to-use. After this debut, however, Apple has been working non-stop to fix these problems within Apple Maps and it is now the dominating mapping service app on iPhones, even over Google Maps.
Mapping service apps are very important to mobile phone companies because within our society, location is very important to people. A major reason that consumers buy smartphones is so they can know where they are, whats around, and how to get there at all times.
In addition to improving the app and fixing its glitches, Apple has increased usage by making it the default mapping app on iPhones. Google Maps is no longer on the homepage of iPhones, and other services on the phones such as Siri or Mail will direct users to Apple Maps when they need it. This makes it easier for iPhone users to use Apple Maps rather than a third-party mapping app, even if they have already downloaded it because their iPhone apps will take them to Apple Maps rather than their downloaded app. Consumers will gravitate toward whatever is more convenient and Apple has strategically used this to their advantage.

This is an example of the new product life cycle. When Apple Maps was in the product introduction stage, it had a lot of problems and didn't go over so well with the users. Apple wasted no time in fixing these problems and now they are in the market growth stage with Apple Maps. Even large companies like Apple can struggle with new products, so everyone should feel encouraged if their new product wasn't as well-received in the introduction stage as they had hoped.

  1. I've always preferred the Apple application for Maps because of its pure simplicity which is what Katherine mentioned Apple is known for. I do believe the Maps have been improved in the previous software updates and they are easier and convenient comparatively, which is always good in times of emergency or when you know less about technology!

  3. The phone comes with a map is really useful. When I first came to the United States, I don't know Houston at all. In March this year, I got a driver's license, learned to drive. I can drive anywhere in Houston with an map. And I am not afraid of getting lost.
