Apple is close to buying music-identification company Shazam Entertainment.

Apple is nearing a deal that will enable them to acquire the popular music app Shazam. The acquisition of this app will be very advantageous to apple, because it will provide great insight to the various musical interest of apple music users. Apple is currently trying to improve its musical service, and is also in the process of trying to release their first apple produced speaker. This deal will vastly enhance the musical aspect of apple, and help apple to reach their goals of  improving their music services.

Shazam has been very helpful in the past, being a referral app for iTunes. It is also believed to have the potential to be very helpful in leading future subscribers to Apple Music, which is Apple's music-streaming service. The funneling of  potential subscribers is important to Apple because they are currently trying to compete with spotify, who has about twice the amount of paying subscribers that Apple music has.

Another goal that Apple has, is to be able to further integrate Shazam with its voice recognition software, Siri. Siri has already been using Shazam to recognize songs since 2014, and after the song was recognized, Siri would have a pop up with the song telling you to buy it on apple music. Therefore, with the purchase of the Shazam app, the process of identifying songs on Siri will be much more efficient.
