Will Vegans Change the Market Forever?
Will Vegans Change the Market Forever?
In a recent article issued by the Wall Street Journal, one journalist asks the question: "Is a Vegan Diet Good for Your Heart?". Veganism is a new trend of dieting where one eats nothing that derives from animals. This includes milk, eggs, cheese, whip cream... A study is currently being made by NYU Langone Health to see whether the vegan diet helps prevent heart disease. The article does a case study with a woman named Kathy Fariello who, like many others, loved her meat, until she suffered from a coronary artery disease. Because of this, she decided to join as a patient, the testing of this vegan research.
This study impacts the market in two aspects. The first is on restaurants. If everyone were to become vegan in order to be healthy, restaurants would have to change their product so as to become vegan friendly. Today, we see many restaurants how in fact let you know when a plate is vegan or even have full menus for vegan people. Restaurants such as steakhouses or sushi places will have to come up with creative ways to assimilate into this new phase of food consumption however many will not achieve this and will end up failing, affecting the market on the way. The second impact on the market is on the farmers. Farmers who produce different types of meat or cheese or milk will be welcomed by a significant amount of decrease in demand which will prove a blow to their economy and market. Many, as the restaurants, will be unable to make the change to more agricultural farming and will probably end up deficient.
Moreover, many years are needed for such a drastic change and it would be a progressive one. However, it is unlikely that the majority of people become vegans; people like their meat too much for that to happen and as we do not yet have the results of the study about whether or not it is good for you heart, people are not inclined to turn to it. Nevertheless, becoming vegan is a popular trend nowadays.
