Coffee Needs a Cancer Warning!
There is a chemical that is found in coffee called acrylamide. It has been proven to be carcinogenic. This means that coffee could be one of the many potential causes of Cancer in humans. A California Judge, Judge Berle, ruled that coffee must carry a cancer warning.
The many coffee companies completely disagree with the ruling. A cancer warning on coffee would probably cause a large decrease in coffee sales. That is why the many coffee companies are fighting against this ruling. Starbucks, one of the biggest distributors of coffee, has bid against the warning label. However, Judge Berle has ignored all of the bids from every coffee distributor. She has claimed that they have not provided enough evidence against the case. The companies have also pitched health benefits of coffee, but they were not persuasive enough. The final ruling is yet to be issued, but it looks like we will be seeing cancer warnings on coffee in the near future. Will you continue drinking it?

Although coffee may be causing cancer, there is still people out there who live off coffee and the possibility of it causing cancer may not even faze them.
ReplyDeleteAs an avid coffee drinker, something like this is terrible to hear. I agree with the judge that until enough evidence and research is conducted no measure should be taken that would greatly impact the market. Until they are sure that coffee is as cause of cancer, I think that they should hold back on the warning labels.
