Study Sees Way to Limit Mosquitoes’ Ability to Spread Zika

Study Sees Way to Limit Mosquitoes’ Ability to Spread Zika

Researchers have found that the Wolbachia Bacterium could help stop the spread of the Zika Virus. By injecting the Aegypti mosquito eggs with Wolbachia bacterium, adult mosquitos resistant to the virus. It would not eliminate it, but it would control it. The “vast majority of people” that have been infected have mild symptoms, but there can still be serious effects. Not only does the mosquito spread Zika, but it also spread dengue fever. With the Wolbachia Bacterium, scientists and researches hope to inject the Aedes aegypti mosquito, that doesn’t carry Zika virus, so that it can stop the spread of it.
