Setting Your Top Employees Free

Businesses across the world have agreed on a main point: We need a variety of workers to keep the job going. What does this mean? Well, it means that it is a good idea to hire new recruits regularly because new blood is new ideas.
Businesses all over have their hot shots. There are always employees who outshine and have been with a company for years. They are assets that you would think a company wouldn't want to lose. Studies are showing that most corporate heads have no problem with losing these employees. In fact, they are even encouraging them to go off to bigger and better things.
When I first heard this I thought it was nuts. The employees who have stayed with a company the longest are there for a reason. They know how to get the job done the best. Business owners' reasoning is that there has to be a flow of fresh thinkers. Hiring new people is fresh thinking that can bring in new ideas (something that the old generation can't do?)
For me, I believe that veteran employees are essential to a business. If a company wants to hire new blood then that is great. Its is beneficial to whatever task the company does. However these new employees should not be the reason that veterans are being let go. My father, an employee at Flour Daniel has been with the company since before I was born. I happen to know that he is an essential part to their team. My belief is that if an employee is high up in the ranks of a company's staff, a company should really look at what they have, because what they have is benefiting them if the company is thriving. There is always room for new people with new ideas (that keeps a business thriving) but companies should hold onto their veterans unless they just can't anymore.

  1. I agree with you that the veteran employees of a company are veteran employees for a reason and that there are benefits to hiring "new blood". It certainly is an interesting topic.
