A new major development is coming
to the automotive industry. “The U.S. government has invested hundreds of
millions of dollars in Wi-Fi-based technology known as DSRC, or dedicated
short-range communication that allows cars to link to “smart” traffic lights
designed to smooth congestion and provide warnings about accidents or poor
weather conditions ahead.” At the current time, GM and Toyota support this
technology. However, Ford, BMW, and some other auto makers are pressing the
Trump administration to let them leapfrog this technology, and head straight
for 5G. The 5G network is much faster and easier to use, and transmits
important data much quicker and this is why some ant to leapfrog to this
technology.
In regards to marketing, this clash
between the two technologies will show which one the consumers want more.
According to Ford, those that have 5G equipped in their vehicles will be able
to stream music, watch movies and sports, and even possibly order a coffee from
the closest Starbucks very easily. However, time will tell which technology consumer’s
favor, and it is up to the automakers marketing team to present their
technology in the better light, and hopefully sell more cars than their
competitors.

i think that having cars that are tracked for less traffic is a great idea but so is having cars equipped with 5g. it'll be interesting to see how this plays out.
