After breaking opening weekend records, “Avengers: Infinity War” continued to dominate in its second weekend in theaters, but alternative programming like the romantic comedy “Overboard” also found an audience in what has historically been considered the “official” kickoff to the summer movie season.
Walt Disney Co. said Sunday that “Avengers: Infinity War” would gross an estimated $112.5 million from North American theaters over the weekend, becoming the second-highest-grossing film in weekend two behind “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” at $149.2 million, and just slightly ahead of “Black Panther” ($111.7 million). Globally, “Avengers: Infinity War” has now grossed more than $1.2 billion and become the first film ever to cross the $1 billion mark in 11 days of release, and it has yet to open in China.
Movie: Avengers Infinity War |
I decided to present a blog post about this movie because it has been discussed by many people and has raised to be the number one movie on the charts kicking off the summer movie premiers.
There is a big field of opportunity here to conduct a marketing analysis, but for this post I will only be focusing on the brand, product and promotion of this movie.
The Marvel brand has produced a total of 18 films following up to the most current, Avengers Infinity War, making 19 films total. With numerous films, the Marvel brand has created a wide fan base of follower that helped build the anticipation of Infinity War and more movies to follow. Promotion of the movie helped move this movie to one of the first movies to produce a gross income of over $1 billion within less than 11 days and still has yet to be released to in the China markets, which will help increase the gross income even more. The product itself, Avengers Infinity War in this case, has become the number one film to grow as much as it has. In my opinion the large fan base and the promotion of the movie helped it get to the point it is at now. The movie was promoted after the release of "Black Panther" and was released almost two months after.
Overall, the movie was well produced and has the audience talking, giving it more exposure and increasing its own revenue and brand awareness.

I think Marvel is on point compared to it's counterpart DC. It succeeds by connecting the films and all super hero fans know that at the end of the film after the credits there's a short segment that shows what's going to happen in the next movie. Making this almost a ritual for movie fans who stick around after the credits really only adds to the success of the franchise.
