The Olympics as a marketing tool







The Winter Olympics targets different sectors in marketing as it is one of the most large-scale and profitable global media events. Sponsoring athletes and teams does not only benefit the sponsor, but also, the athletes as they receive merchandise and a big check for wearing the equipment. It is a marketing lifestyle because when fans see the athletes performing, they buy almost all the equipment and merchandise. Also, by posting pictures on Instagram or Facebook with millions of followers, the athletes promote their merchandise and are very successful. Even at the rinks, skii course or at the slopes, there are banners of the companies that sponsor the events. The marketing target is to all audiences as the sponsors are promoting an athlete, a sport, a brand, and the country that is hosting the Olympics. It is good because they are marketing a brand and since the fans are very patriotic, they want to buy the merchandise of their country.

Every time the Olympics, or even other events like the Super Bowl, are going on, I find it that I’m always intrigued to see all the commercials and what attire the athletes are wearing. The is so much attractiveness for the games because it is not only entertaining, but the marketing, promotion, and advertisement generate high profits.

A lot of consideration on the behalf of marketing managers is made to ensure they promote their products and fulfill the goals of their marketing objectives.
