Netflix Takeover; Cable-cutting continues to grow

Netflix takeover:

Cable- cutting continues to grow

As more consumers shift to streaming-video services like Netflix, traditional cable and telecommunications companies are losing subscribers—and revenue.

Have you or your family dropped cable TV yet? More and more customers are dropping their Cable TV as they turn to rely only on streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon prime. This is a fundamental shift in the consumers behaviors as it is really hurting the cable TV providers. Myself included does not have cable tv for the past two years I have used only sites like Netflix to watch any of my shows.

I used to think it would be impossible and begged my parents to keep the cable to I could keep up withy weekly shows. They weren't bugging very much and decided to cancel it anyways. A few weeks later I couldn't even notice it was gone? It was almost like I felt like we never needed it in the first place and my shows that I thought were so "important", seemed meaningless. I rarely watched tv anymore all together and I found myself doing more activities outdoors with my family, bringing us even closer!

Cable companies have a growing concern about these streaming services stealing away their markets, and they should have that concern because it's happening!! You will very rarely find someone who doesn't own a Netflix account. They are delivering "game-changing convenience" at a remarkably efficient price! You just can't beat the deal they offer.. Charter Communications Inc., the third-largest US pay-tv provider by subscribers, said "Friday it lost 122,000 video customers" in just he first quarter, when they only predicted to lose about 40,000. The year earlier they lost roughly 100,000 customers as well. This data proves that at the rate the streaming services are going, they will take over the market sooner than ever expected.

The companies are the ones being affected by this. The cable companies are just trying to stay afloat as Netflix and other services just keep raising the bar! Netflix is now starting to be known for all the original series and movies they've came out with. Just to list a few that have been extremely popular in the past 3-4 years, Orange is the New Black, Stranger Things, Black Mirror, & 13 Reasons Why. The cable companies are definitely the ones struggling to keep up with its competitors. That would bring us to the 2nd C, competitors. This would include Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and even Youtube has started to get in on the streaming service. They are all very strong competitors and all have similar structures to how it works and what kind of shows they put on, but they do have their differentiations. Hulu has some shows that come out every week and you could watch as if you had cable, but Netflix they are known for putting out the whole series at one time! Lastly the customers are a huge portion of these corporations success. A customer like me prefers Netflix because I don't like to wait for the next episode.. I'm a binge watcher! But I do also have a Hulu account because the shows are different and I like to have a variety of show to watch at the times I do sit down to watch a show! The convenience  of these streaming services is no match when comparing it to cable services. You can pull out your phone or watch it on your computer any time any day. In today's world, convenience is huge part of customers choice on with products and services they use. So Netflix is definitely winning in that aspect as well. All around, my choice is definitely Netflix over cable-tv and being a part of the community who's cut their cable, I could tell you it was a good choice for myself and my family to save money and still enjoy all our favorite shows!

  1. It would be interesting to include some detail about the context as part of your analysis. Social-Cultural and Technological are two areas of the macro environment driving the shift away from cable and towards streaming platforms.
