Sony plans to release five or six smartphone games by the end of March 2018. This is one of Sony's latest attempts to get the casual gamer to their high-end game platform. With the competition from Microsoft's Xbox, Sony is trying to gain a competitive advantage by bringing a new aspect of gaming to the world. In today's society, everybody is likely to have a smartphone that they carry around with them everywhere they go. The idea to release games for the smartphone is very bright. For a traditional gamer, this may not be a big hit but for the younger generations this could be a big hit.
With the massive amount of attention that Pokémon Go has received, video game companies have taken into account how successful a video game app can become. The PlayStation market is doing very well globally but has taken a hit in Japan where the smartphone market is three times bigger than the console market. If this starts to become a trend globally, the smartphone app may be the smart way to go. If Sony is able to release some of the great games they have for the PlayStation console onto the smartphone apps, they will be more than likely to have success.
As technology continues to develop at a very high rate, companies like Sony have to be ready to come out with new developments in order to stay in the game. New inventions are bound to happen with all of the new technology and availability that comes with it. Sony and other companies have to be ready to come up with fresh ideas otherwise they could be put out of business in the near future. With the release of these smartphone apps, they are going to allow themselves to be in the mix of the new era of gaming.
This article has a lot to do with the targeting mix. Sony has their die hard PlayStation lovers but they are trying to broaden that by going out and getting the casual gamers with these new smartphone apps. The more Sony broadens their gaming availability, the more gamers they are going to attract.
This is an interesting idea! PlayStation lovers can play some games on the go!
