The Twists That Will Decide the Premier League Title





      The Premiere league is one of the biggest Leagues for soccer in the world and by far one of the richest. Last season the English club Manchester City won the title after acquiring many new players that pushed the team to a championship. wit hall their money coming in from the Abu Dhabi royal family it was seen to be unlikely that any other team would come close to contending for this years title. This was not the case as Liverpool is contending for this title as they have not won since 1990. Now I could bore all of you with the statistics of the league and why the race for the title is so tight but that is not the point of this blog. my goal is to present the reason why winning is so important to these clubs, it goes way beyond just the glory of having the cup in their hands. 

      Soccer clubs are not just a place where the best players in the world can have fun and play, at the end of the day they are a business. To run this business they need money and the only way to do that is to get it with selling tickets and selling its name. when a club wins a title it gets free publicity to market itself. Teams look for this publicity for a number of reasons, first to get their fans to actually buy tickets and merchandise. Second winning makes the team more attractive to potential world class players, and lastly it leads them to sign deals with big companies for advertising. If a team can be called the champions their fans will want to buy season tickets therefore enhancing the brand of the team. Also what player wants to play for a team that doesn't win it is a cycle teams that win get better player and win more. 

     The most important aspect of all this is the connection between teams and other companies. In the premiere I have seen brands like Chevrolet, and Yokohama but they are not on the jerseys of just any team they are on the teams that are winning. This partnership between brands and these teams opens up the range of consumers for these companies. Sports fans now are alerted to may commercial brands opening the target market of the company. not only this when fans buy uniforms with the sponsoring brands they get free exposure when fans where these jerseys to school and around the city. Bottom line is there is a strong connection with marketing withing the world of soccer and winning a title is at the center, making winning much more than just a trophy.
