Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, many businesses have struggled to maintain profit due to a decrease in physical contact and an increase in social distancing. Despite this, some businesses are actually thriving like streaming services and online services due to an increase in viewership and traffic. However, it seems like most businesses that want to advertise their products are struggling.
According to the article, the reason why so many people are constantly looking for stuff to watch is because many popular industries that are usually on television, such as sports, are not there because of COVID-19. Due to this many people now want to look for more things to watch so they can distract themselves and find entertainment. However, as was stated before, advertisement has been decreasing. This is due to many factors such as travel industry not wanting to offend others or the fact that advertisements would be an expense to the companies because no one can actually go outside and buy their products and delivery is limited to only essentials or are outright not allowed to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
The way this connects to our learning is through Chapter 14. In Chapter 14, the main topic is about promotion and connecting with your audience in order to buy your product. In some ways, by not advertising your product in order to not offend your audience, you are connecting with them, but on the other hand no one is going out there to buy your products in retail and your relationship isn't truly developing because you aren't constantly trying to persuade them into how they should relate to your products and see how the product might be beneficial to them.
