Liberty Global, Telefonica to Combine U.K. Units, Creating $39 Billion Giant


In a rare deal during the pandemic, Virgin Media is set to merge with O2, pooling the companies’ 46 million subscribers



Liberty Global Chairman John Malone, whose company agreed to combine its Virgin Media business with Telefonica’s O2.

Although, combining two businesses together through a pandemic is said to be unusual. It is also the largest deal since the coronavirus has began at $39 Billion. That's what Liberty Global from the UK and Telefonica SA from Spain have done. They combined their businesses to create a mega telecommunications platform for their 46 million subscribers. Majority of workers throughout the world have adjusted their lives to working at home and with that telecommunication companies have risen because they are able to provide certain plans with bundles that meet the requirements of customers at a price that is reasonable such as cable, internet, and phone services.  Even to come to an agreement both parties had to make video calls to each other for months. Taking advantage of the come up of 5G with faster downloads and the opportunity to use new technology to develop everyone. The deal will also save roughly $6.7 Billion for the companies.
