Tesla Plans to Sell Owners Cheaper Car Insurance

Tesla is trying out a new insurance program in order to provide cheaper insurance for their autonomous vehicles. Tesla's Model S is currently ranked as the 15th most expensive car to insure in the country. Tesla reported over $700 M in losses this quarter, so they are trying to come up with several new marketing strategies in order to raise revenue. They've gone as far as even lowering the cost of their vehicles. Although this new insurance idea is not implemented yet, it could definitely be an incentive to buy a Tesla. Many people's concern with investing in an autonomous vehicle is the high insurance rates. If Tesla can provide affordable insurance for its customers, it could result in a great marketing strategy to get more Tesla owners on the roads.

Fifth Avenue Losing Luster as Vacancies Climb, Rents Fall

Global retailers used to seemingly pay what ever to be on fifth avenue in Manhattan. They didn't care about the slim margins and steep price. This has begun to change with the rise of eCommerce. this has lead to a decline in retail sales making the cost no longer worth the asking price.  Sales were down by and average of 11% across the board from this time in 2017. Retailers argue that even must have locations must have rents that are still reasonable

. This demonstrates the need for a company to be able to adapt to its surrounding market. If people are no longer willing to pay the highest of the high for a retail space and it continues to sit empty, the price must be lowered to reflect the market at large. This is why these spots continue to remain empty. Their own business also being impacted by an outside force.

Marvel's Success in Movies

Marvel's Success in Movies

This article is focused on "Walt Disney Co.’s “Avengers: Endgame” [success in becoming] the second-highest-grossing movie of all time, reaching nearly $2.19 billion in global box-office revenue just 12 days after hitting theaters, according to preliminary studio estimates." The highest grossing movie is currently Avatar (2009), but many analysts believe Endgame has the ability to surprise this film.

Although, this was not possible without Marvel's twenty-two other movies. “Avengers: Endgame” (2019) is part 2 of "Avengers: Infinity War" (2018) which is a story that began back in 2012 with "Marvel's The Avengers" (2012). For this reason, Marvel movies attract more viewers. This is applicable to all of their movies:

1"The Infinity Saga"

Each movie within a phase tells a small portion, for example, all of the movies in phase one help develop the story for "Marvel's The Avengers (2012), same for phase two, they help develop the story for "Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) with the exception of "Ant-Man (2015) which set-up the story for "Captain Americal: Civil War (2016). Finally, we have phase three where "Avengers: Infinity War" (2018) and "Avengers: Endgame" (2019) are a part of. Overall, all of the movies listed in phase three help develop the story for "Avengers: Endgame" (2019) and for that reason it is no surprise that they have become the second highest grossing movie of all time.

I chose this article because I am a fan of these movies. Personally, I enjoy stories and Marvel knows how to tell an exciting and engaging story. This is relevant to our class because it explains the environment movie producers are in. Now moviegoers want franchises, great stories, and amazing plot twisters; this makes the job of a producer a bit harder because the standards have been raised by Marvel movies.

Lyft Reports Strong Revenue Growth, $1.1 Billion Loss

https://www.wsj.com/articles/lyft-reports-strong-revenue-growth-1-1-billion-loss-11557259916

May 07, 2019

Lyft reported a surprising $776 million revenue in its first quarter operating as a public company. Lyft is reportedly growing at a faster rate than its biggest competitor, Uber. As a Lyft and Uber user myself, I do personally notice Lyft puts a lot more effort into their marketing. I am constantly getting promotions from Lyft to use them and receive a couple dollars off their services, while I do not typically get these kind of promotions from Uber. This type of marketing was mentioned in the article and is believed to have played a major role in Lyft's unexpected revenue.
