Coronavirus Quarantine Breakers and Evaders Face Fines, Jails Terms

Due to the rapid spread of the coronavirus, authorities are now taking new measures to ensure that people who are infected are quarantine. Singapore and Hong Kong are the first to issue charges to those accuse of misleading authorities and breaking travel restrictions. China is doing its very best to contain the virus but it seems that the people are not obeying the rules. South Korea is now the most infected place due to many Chinese's citizens fleeing to South Korea. Governments trying to control the fast-spreading coronavirus are punishing residents and visitors accused of misleading health investigators, hiding key details about their activities and flouting quarantine orders. The first case is scheduled to be heard in court on Friday. Two people gave incorrect information about their whereabouts, which officials later uncovered. If they are convicted, they will face prison terms of up to six months, fines up to $7,150 or both. They are being charged under the Infectious Diseases Act for giving false information. Singapore are now stripping people of their permanent-resident status and revoked foreigner's work passes over virus-related infractions.

The coronavirus has impacted not only the economy but also the education of students. Universities and schools have closed down leading for students getting behind in their studies. As for universities, professors are having their class sessions in video chats. People have no option but to stay indoor and not to leave their property. It is possible for people to work at home depending on what they work in but for people who work in corner stores or groceries are greatly impacted. Many countries have stopped the trade from China which is also hurting their economy.

I found this article interesting because this virus is impacting so many lives and changing the economy. As a student myself it can very stressful at times but for these students in China and South Korea they not only have to worry about their school assignments but also the virus. Their economy is not receiving any money since no one can work and other states have stopped trade. Hopefully with this new Act, China and other countries will be able to contain the virus.

  1. This is smart because there's so many videos of people trying to infect other people with the coronavirus by coughing/spitting on stuff like door knobs and staircase railings
