"3M Sues Mask-Seller for Alleged Gouging, Trademark Infringement" Analysis
Article Published on April 10, 2020

In many major natural disasters or hard times, people tend to change their perspective on things nd try to do what's right or do their best to help others. However, that's not always the case as mask seller going by the name of Performance, was caught price gouging on 3M's masks for up to six time the usual amount, and according to the article, the person was not an official certified seller according to 3M, while the rest of the article covers the basis of why masks are important, where 3M has been trying to distribute their masks, and telling us the increase in prices.
What caught my interest with this article was the fact that price gouging has been going on for awhile now and not just happening during this crisis. Sure the products that are being price gouged are different at certain times, but its still a major problem that has been existing for awhile now. The problem is that many people can claim "it's just the process of supply and demand" , but in actuality some of it has to do with the seller trying to gain a profit, which might cause others to want to gain more profit and so on and so on. The way this relates to Chapter 16 is that it somewhat follows the rules of pricing objectives. With pricing objectives, its usually either profit oriented, sales oriented, and/or status quo oriented. In this case, its very profit oriented as the seller wants more than the target returns and to maximize as much profit as possible.

  1. I believe 3M's decision on suing the third party seller was the best decision. The company could have easily chose to ignore it and left it alone since it is not something usual to do and many other people take part in it too. But due to the fact that world is struggling in the middle of a pandemic and people have lost jobs and were not able to buy supplies needed for times like this makes the third party seller to look terrible as a human. How can someone not have any mercy especially in trying times like these?
