Coronavirus Creates Uncertainty for Texas Cattle Dealers

Although restaurants around the United States are still open for take out and drive through the reality is that sales are decreasing 30-40%. As a result food distributors and farmers are seeing a decrease in demand for products since the restaurant industry is struggling so heavily. One of the biggest sectors impacted has been the Texas cattle dealers which are facing difficulty because they will no longer be able to sell the cattle that they currently have and may be facing a $200 dollar loss on each cow. Uncertainty is the biggest concern and many cattle ranchers are forced to continue to buy and sell cattle in order to pay employees although they are faced with significant loses. Cattle auctions are still in business but they only allow buyer and sellers, family and friends are not allowed to attend due to distancing guidelines. These crazy loses will affect the industry tremendously especially those that are currently struggling to pay the bills, and hopefully many of these ranchers will be able to find help through government assistance or small buisness loans.
