To Wear or Not to Wear Facemasks? That Is the Question
With COVID-19 going around, many people are covering up, wearing masks and gloves whenever they choose to go outside of their homes. Is wearing a mask really worth it? According to Don Milton, a professor of environmental and occupational health at the University of Maryland School of Public Health in College Park, Md., any little bit helps, especially during these rough times with a global pandemic going around. The importance of wearing masks is to protect others from ourselves. By wearing masks, we can minimize the spread of the Coronavirus or other diseases to others who are asymptomatic. This article is very informative on the use of facemasks. Said in the article, it does not make a difference if the mask is homemade or store bought, but do not let the mask allow you to relax from social distancing. If the mask is being worn, but there is no social distancing, then the mask has no benefit because you can still catch the virus. To make homemade masks, the best material to use is thick and tightly woven fabric, like a sweatshirt or a kitchen towel.
I chose to write about this article because I feel like it is very informative and important, especially with the conditions right now. Everyone is being affected by this global pandemic and we all need to work together to fight this disease to be able to enjoy our world again. This article is informative to people who are wanting to learn about facemasks and their benefits for using them and with stores going low on the stocks of facemasks, people can make homemade masks out of materials such as sweatshirts or kitchen towels which will be helpful when going out of homes.

I love the article you chose especially because it is something we all need to think about right now. COVID -19 is very serious and I believe we all need to know what we should do to prevent ourselves from getting it. If wearing mask minimizes the chance of us getting it and spreading it I believe it's a great idea. The more we do to protect ourselves the faster this virus will pass.
ReplyDeleteI agree when you say this article is important especially now that Texas is slowly opening back up. The importance of wearing masks has now increased and for good reason too. Although Texas is reopening that does not mean that the virus has gone away, therefore, people must take extra precautions which include always wearing masks. Wearing the masks helps reduce the chances of people getting the virus and of it spreading, wearing a mask should not even be a question.
