Apple Music vs. Spotify: Never Ending Competition

       

          Music is essential. It has been a long time since we used those CD players, mp3 or even Ipod, which required many steps from the users before they could listen to their favorite songs. It was the past. Nowadays, streaming music is replacing those old school devices. Streaming music is a way of delivering without requiring the users to do anything else but listening to their favorite music instantly. Spotify and Apple Music are the two biggest rivals in the streaming music service industry.
          Recently, Apple streaming-music service announces that their growth rate has increased about 2.6% to 3% compared with Spotify about 1.5% to 2%. Apple also had more than Spotify about 2 million subscribers of February in paying users. However, Spotify still has more users overall in the U.S and global with 207 millions active users, which they includes non paying listeners. Spotify is still a leader in steaming music field because it offers the users the free, ad-supported version of the service.

          In the opposite, Apple doesn't offer the free, ad-supported option. However, they are growing faster globally about 2.4% to 2.8%, while Spotify has only 2.3% from 2%. Apple ties the users to mobile-phone services helps it make significant inroads. The company joined with Verizon company to provide new and current customers six months of free Apple music. This is a smart move of Apple in marketing. Apple can introduce the Apple Music to the users, let them try it and see how awesome this service is, then the chance that customers become loyal member would be higher instead of jumping right in to the service without knowing about it. Observing the great change in growth rate of Apple, Spotify starts its own discount promotion for the users by offering of free Hulu access with premium subscriptions. Both company are very ambitious to be the winner in streaming-music service industry.

This is interesting, I never knew that Apple had decided to team up with Verizon to offer their users a 6 month free subscription.Even though I am use Verizon as a phone carrier I am still loyal to Spotify, I think Apple would have to offer something really incentivizing for me to make the switch over. Good post!

  2. Very interesting Thu! I, myself is still with spotify just because I have been to lazy to make the switch. I have noticed the apple music marketing schemes though and I find it to grab my attention.
