Microsoft is proof of what happens when you make a product that works. Sure, the Windows platform may be more virus prone than MacOS, but it is also the most compatible with games, business software, and almost every other kind of software under the sun, moon, and stars.
They created a product that works and that you buy once and keeps getting better until your next pc, or until your platform is so old they can no longer support it. The price of the product individually is hardly known because it is built into the cost of every PC on the planet, and has limitless numbers of plugins, add on, and plusses.Windows gives it's users access to numerous open source software's that are not available anywhere else. Microsoft office is an expansive software suite used in every business from Mom and Pop stores to Fortune 500 companies. It is absolutely mind boggling how many people use it, and it is because it's not tailored, but designed to be bent and twisted to the users needs.
But the software works. That is the most important thing. It has everything a person could really want, and if it doesn't, you can go online and download what you want. In an era where other companies from major food brands like pringles, to streaming giants like Netflix are all having product issues, Microsoft continues to innovate and improve the core of all of their products: Windows.
Microsoft pumps out updates for it like mad, and every few years releases a new version to keep it up with the times. It released Windows 8 in response to the proliferation of touch screen technology in computers, and Windows 10 to accommodate the user demands for a more familiar and versatile platform.
So I believe it is time other companies take a lesson from Microsoft: Keep what works, and improve what does not.
It's the only way they will be able to keep their products alive and thriving, and the only way to remain on top.

After reading this, I realize how different Microsoft operates vs say Apple. The iPhone constantly updates, but I never see any real improvements. I like how Microsoft actually paces it's updates and these updates are big. Apple seems to do more updates, but only fix minor issues. Microsoft has embraced a saying most companies ignore: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Look for example what Coca-Cola did with New Coke in the '80's. I remember watching that in a documentary about the '80's; people were livid. Not to mention, Pepsi began to rise and really rival Coca-Cola. Even though Coca-Cola did go back to the original recipe, it seems many companies never learned from it. Great job!
