Yogurt Maze Overwhelming the Consumers

          In the age of healthy living style, yogurt becomes a part of the diet of people who are pursuing the better life style. Yogurt is rich in important nutrients, high in protein, promoting weight management and several benefits that make it become popular in healthy diets. From those benefits, many food companies start catching up this trend and manufacture hundred categories of yogurt; from regular Greek yogurt to non-dairy, fat free, etc.
          The outbreak of this healthy eating trend confuses the consumers. According to Sara Gray, a mother in McKinney, Texas said "I don't even know what I'm looking for most of the time." It looks like she lost in a yogurt maze!
          As an outcome, the overall yogurt sales starts falling after a decade of growth. Introducing too many flavors and styles is self-inflicted. The consumers now have to spend extra time at yogurt aisle to just picking the right type for them, while it used to be a quick and simple snack.


          Another reason that make the sales decline is because of the retailers. They can see the trend and potential from the food companies. Therefore, they cut price and shelf space from those companies and start selling the yogurt under their brand name with the cheaper price. The competition now is not only between the food companies, but also with the retailers and grocery sellers. 
          To improve the sales in general, food companies should not just focus on the quality of the products. External factors can also bring huge impact of making the brand become outstanding. For example, recently people concern about the global warming problem. There are many meaningful activities that enhance people's consciousness about this problem. One of the activities which has affected internationally is "The Litter Challenge". Therefore, if the packing could be recycle or donate the revenue for the challenge, the company become a part of the community. Giving back to the community will create the connection between the company and the consumers. 
          Now all food companies are trying to improve their sales in many ways. The marathon of selling yogurt will be continued for at least ten more years when people nowadays starts living a healthy life.
