Kellogg's Ideas are getting as stale as thier Chips

Ask most millennials and Gen Z kids about Pringles, and most of them would probably say, "Yeah, they are alright. I haven't had them in while though...."  After a recent attempt by Kellogg to revamp what was one of America's favorite potato chips has revealed that Kellogg is running out of ideas on how to make the concept novel enough for consumers to take interest again.

Pringles is a product that has long since reached peak and maturity, and is now steadily on the decline as health becomes a bigger part of every day life for people around the globe. Indeed, similar brands that are considered in the "Junk food" family have all taken hits to their share prices, including PepsiCo, and Dr. Pepper-Snapple.

This decline is indicative of a shift in consumer tastes most literally, and it makes revamping a product like Pringles hard. If people don't want to buy potato chips in the first place, then they won't bother even looking at a can of Pringles, no matter the flavor or gimmick Kellogg's use.

To be fair though, their latest set of attempts in the arena fell rather flat even with the regular consumers of junk food, which shows that Kellogg's marketing guys need to go back to the drawing board on what it is consumers want. It could be argued that their energies could be invested in a product that goes better with the times, or if they are that dedicated to their Pringles brand, creating a healthier, low-sodium version of Pringles.

Whatever the case, there is one thing that is clear. Kellogg's will have to try something else.

  1. Being apart of gen z, I agree that I too ate a fair share of Pringles. You are definitely correct, they need to come up with something the consumer wants rather than trying to fix whats obviously a dud. That is the whole point of the marketing concept.

  3. I like how I can relate to this blog post because reading your blog made me remember how everyone use to eat Pringles although now I hardly see anyone eat them. I think new chips entering the junk food market are pulling consumers aways from Pringles along with other mature junk food products such as Cheetos.
