Sears Went Into Bankruptcy—but Its Lavish Rewards Program Won’t Quit

This Wall Street Journal speaks on the impact a rewards program can have on a company. Although Sears has gone bankrupt many of their regular customers are still receiving rewards. Shoppers earn $1 dollar for points for every $100 they spend at Sears and Kmart. Sears would offer cash back bonuses on rewards. However, people do not have to shop at Sears to earn rewards. Many companies have created their own ways to get points. Uber gives members $1 for every uber ride.

Sears’ reward system seemed to be one of the most used in the whole industry. People redeemed points day and night. The problem is that now that stores are closing less people will use rewards. The reward system was truly a great advantage for Sears in competing with other department stores.

This article describes the importance of having a loyalty/rewards program. This program sticks with your company forever and has a huge impact on customers. Competition almost always has a rewards program.
