This article discusses the life cycle of cable services. Many people believe that cable is dying because of streaming services. It is in fact the contrary streaming services are actually pushing cable companies to innovate their products. What cable companies intend on doing is provide a service that is the most convenient for its customers. They intend to drop the old way of finding shows with a guide and hundreds of channels and focus on voice control. The reason why this is important is because cable seemed to be an outdated means of entertainment but they are innovating to keep its customers. They have essentially jumped back in their product life cycle. They went from declining back to their peak considering that they still are the most popular means of entertainment. They have also made their services compatible with streaming services. With one search customers are able to browse live TV, on demand, and streaming services like Netflix. This strategy did well to revitalize the outdated reputation of cable services. Another reason why cable isn't declining is because of their pricing strategy. A lot of companies bundle cable with their internet services so they present a low price for additional cable services. That is very convenient because every household needs internet service why not add a cheap cable service to watch live shows and sports. Cable providers have also expanded services outside of the household with their apps. This eliminates the boundaries once associated with a cable box at home and lets cable compete with streaming apps.
I chose this article because I though cable was declining. It was interesting to read about the strategy cable companies are taking to compete with the growing streaming services. They did well to identify the needs of the target market and address them. Its great to see a service innovate and keep in competition with the newer more modern services. cable companies did great to create a marketing campaign to compete in a market that is being overtaken by streaming. xfinity even adopted Netflix to their service to make themselves seem more of a modern service instead of adhering to the stereotype that they're outdated.
