Coca-Cola is making a huge expansion outside of soda drink production. For the last couple years, the company has tested many new products overseas. Coca-Cola has been experimenting with the addition of coffee, water, juice, and energy drink into the Coca-Cola family. Over the last year in Asia, Coca-Cola has been testing its Coca-Cola Plus Coffee. With the positive results, the company now plans to launch the drink into 25 different markets. As well as the coffee drink, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar has doubled its digits in the last quarter. Since the launch of Coca-Cola Orange Vanilla, the retail sales for the Coca-Cola brand has increased by 6%.
Coca-Cola's rival company Pepsi is also making a push in expansion, offering 3 new drinks. The coffee flavored Coca-Cola is supposed to appeal to people who need a little pick me up in the middle of the day. The drink offers stronger energy and caffeine that traditional cola. Coca-Cola in the first quarter had completed its $5.1 billion acquisition of a British Coffee Chain called Costa.
I find this expansion by Coca-Cola interesting because they have always been viewed as a soda brand. I feel like this expansion will go over smoothly since the Coca-Cola brand has been built up for many years. This post relates to our class in the aspect of marketing schemes. With the new product offered, they will need to implement an updated marketing plan for these energy drinks.
