Yogurt Sales Fall as More Options are Available
Consumers have become confused as more varieties of yogurt hit the market. Yogurt has been around for a long time. It has become one of the most fashionable foods of the past decade, winning as a natural and healthy aesthetic for consumers. However, the changes have left some consumers confused. U.S. yogurt sales have fallen because of it.
Sara Gray, a 47-year-old teacher, and mother in McKinney, Texas. She said she was stumped by the blizzard of yogurts that confronted her at her local Kroger Co. store. “I don’t even know what I’m looking for most of the time,”.
On average the U.S. supermarket carries 306 different yogurt varieties, according to brand sales and marketing agency Acosta. Overall yogurt sales have fallen 6% by volume in the year through February, Nielsen data shows. Sales of Greek yogurt, which kick-started the category’s explosive growth, fell 11%.
In my opinion, these yogurt companies should start doing a limited time event. Like Mcdonalds, does with its McRib,. This way companies could try new products in the market and make them exclusive. The major problem being that consumers are overwhelmed, they can solve that by maybe limiting flavors.
