Snap Pushes Into Gaming, Ratcheting Up Battle Royale With ‘Fortnite’

Messaging company aims to replicate the success of multiplayer games that double as online communities

As the popularity of online gaming increases among the users, Snap Inc. wants to incorporate games into their social media app, Snapchat, with the intention of attracting more users to the app as a way to for them to communicate while entertaining themselves without having to go to two different places.

Fornite has become popular among young internet users since its initial launch in mid-2017, and we see no slowing down with its popularity as time goes by. It seems like within the recent years, social media companies platforms are starting to collaborate game into their platforms in order to attract more users to the new features. For example, Facebook Inc. reports a whopping number of 700 million users who participate in any kind of gaming activities (watching gaming videos, participating in gaming groups, etc...) on their social media app, Facebook, in a single month.

One thing that game makers and social media app have in common is that they both need to make products that can keep their users on coming back for more before they could get bored of it for as long as possible. So by combining two of the most appealing things to the current group of users, social media and games, it make the users to become more hook for a much longer time period compare to the old ways of social media.

This is a genius way of marketing that social media platforms are using to boost up the user number of their app. From what I have seen so far since the launch of games on Snapchat, people tend to spend more time on the app because they are playing all of the different games that are available every day without getting bored.
